About Ōtaki Kindergarten

”High Quality Early Childhood Education Ōtaki Kindergarten has been part of the community for over 50 years. We have a purpose built building, an extensive playground with mature trees. We are well resourced with quality equipment. We operate a play-based curriculum and follow ngā tamariki interests and strengths. We promote "loose parts" play, which is a large selection of objects and materials which ngā tamariki can move, manipulate, control and change while they play eg milk crates, planks, tyres. This play provides for the use of imagination and problem solving. We operate as a mixed aged kindergarten. Children can attend from age 2 - school entry. Our teaching philosophy is Kaiako respect & nurture the mana of all ngā tamariki, whānau and each other. Kaiako empower & support ngā tamariki to learn and grow holistically, by following their interests and strengths. Our overarching statement is to look after ourselves, each other and the environment. Our philosophy is based on supporting children’s learning and development, valuing and encouraging whānau involvement, fostering children’s connections with the natural environment and incorporating taha Māori into the curriculum.
